Let It Go, Let Yourself Flow
Winter is finally here, and it is cold! Many of you have shared how difficult it is to move, to get inspired to move, and just plain feel better in your body. When we don’t start our cars in the winter often, they won’t start, therefore they won’t move. We need to find ways to start our own engines in our bodies. Many of you have heard me share to think about the fluid in your body when you move. Our bodies are mostly fluid; 60% of an adult body is water, our hearts are 73% water, and our lungs are 83% water, and cerebrospinal fluid (that bathes the brain and spinal cord) is 99% water. That’s pretty amazing! And don’t forget we have blood, lymph moving throughout the body too!
So when I read a quote written by Frank Lowen a Manual Therapist, I thought it was a simple way to describe that all it takes is intention before you move and then feel the fluidity.
“If you interact with a body as if it is something solid and immovable then it will respond to you as something solid and immovable. However, if you interact with the body as if it is fluid and energetic then it responds to you as such.”
So each day when you move, think of fluidity while you move. Whether you are doing a codified form of exercise or you are dancing in your living room, let it go and let yourself flow.
